Wednesday’s Killarney August Festival Betting

The Killarney August Festival commences on Wednesday and the highlight of day one is the Listed Vincent O’Brien Ruby Stakes.

Custom Cut’s winning spree came to an end with a couple of defeats at Galway, but George Kent’s three-year-old still ran with credit and deserves the step up from handicap company.

Kent’s charge is officially the highest rated horse in the race, but he has a Galway winner in the shape of the Dermot Weld-trained Rock Critic to contend with, in addition to a Ballydoyle trio that is headed by Soon, who makes a swift reappearance after contesting a Group Three at the Curragh on Sunday. Sweet Lightning, Barack and Learn were all in action a day earlier and have claims as well.

Weld and Aidan O’Brien also lock horns in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF (C & G) Maiden, which kicks off the fixture at 4.55.

Ballydoyle colt Hall Of Mirrors chased home the exciting prospect Galileo Rock at Leopardstown, while Weld’s Impound lost little in defeat when second at Galway.

The one to beat, however, is Orgilgo Bay, who pressed subsequent Futurity winner First Cornerstone in a Tipperary Listed heat.

The powerhouse stables also go head to head in the Robin Parke Memorial Handicap, with O’Brien lowering the sights of Cabin, and Weld hoping that Encrypted Message can go one better than he did at the Galway Festival.

O’Brien’s Purple has been costly to follow, although she still sets the standard in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden, but her stable companion Order must improve if he is to contend with Kevin Prendergast’s Crystal Kangaroo in the Don’t Forget Ladies Day Saturday September 1 Maiden.

Cul A Dun has tasted victory at this meeting for the last two years and takes in the www.mosscontrol.ie Handicap, and Cairdiuil is another previous scorer here and contests a Tadgh Clifford Groundcare Handicap in which there isn’t much in the way of winning form.

Punters are advised to check out Ladbrokes best early-morning prices, where a detailed list of all runners and riders for Wednesday’s Killarney card will be on offer in-house and on-line. Watch out for our regular racing specials on offer.
