With just two days to go until the start of the US Open at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, world number one Luke Donald is primed to finally break his duck and win a Major having won six events in the last 16 months.

The Englishman prepares to reign supreme in California come Sunday evening in his 36th attempt at winning a major title.

Donald is available at 14/1 to win the US Open title in California this weekend with Tiger Woods installed as the 8/1 favourite to win his fourth US Open title having won in 2000, 2002 and 2008, while defending champion, Rory McIlroy, is priced at 16/1 to retain the title the Northern Irishman won in sensational fashion at Congressional in 2011.

Lee Westwood, who is third in the world rankings, is also chasing that elusive first major and, having won six events in the last 14 months, including the Nordea Masters in Stockholm last weekend, the 39-year-old Worksop native is an enticing 12/1 to win the title outright come Sunday evening at the Olympic Club.

Both Donald and Westwood are paired in the opening round in San Francisco in Group A and Ladbrokes offer 10/11 odds for both players to win, with 16/1 on offer for the tie on Thursday. Tournament favourite Woods is 5/2 to top Group A, with Donald (7/2), McIlroy (4/1) and five-time runner-up at the US Open, Phil Mickelson, priced at 9/2 to win the Group and is 20/1 to finally win the tournament outright.

Ladbrokes offer a comprehensive market on the second major of the year with Donald priced at 3/1 to finish in the top five along with McIlroy, and Woods (11/8), Westwood (5/2) and Mickelson is 7/2 for a top-five finish. Donald is the 6/4 favourite to finish as the top Englishman at The Olympic Club with Westwood (11/8), Justin Rose (4/1) and Ian Poulter priced at 9/1.

The world number one also heads the market in the top European player and is 10/3 along with Westwood and McIlroy for the feat, with Rose (9/1) and 2010 US Open champion, Northern Irishman Graeme McDowell, priced at 16/1.

Ladbrokes offer 16/1 that Donald will be the first-round leader after Thursday and the leading bookmaker offers 14/1 odds that the 34-year-old Hemel Hempstead man can win The Open Championship, which takes place at Royal Lytham & St Anne’s on July 15-22. Donald is also 14/1 to win the US PGA Championship in August at the Ocean Course in Kiawah Island in South Carolina.

Donald, who has been in a tussle for the top spot in world golf with McIlroy, regained pole position in the rankings following his win at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth on May 27 and the time is now right for the Englishman to win his first major this weekend at the US Open with England’s last success coming from Tony Jacklin in 1970.

Other notables for US Open glory includes the US Masters champion, Bubba Watson, who beat South African Louis Oosthuizen in a play-off to land the first major of the year at Augusta National in April and both players are 50/1 for the title, with Rose, Matt Kuchar and Dustin Justin priced at 25/1 and McDowell 80/1 for glory in San Francisco.
