Maria Sharapova is a hot favourite in Ladbrokes’ Wimbledon tennis betting, despite only reaching the fourth round in 2007.

The third seed is a dangerous performer on any surface when in form. She was unstoppable in achieving her Grand Slam breakthrough at Wimbledon in 2004 and showed she is at the top of her game by winning this year’s Australian Open, without dropping a set.

Favourite in Wimbledon tennis odds must forget last year’s event

The Russian has attracted many tennis bets in the run up to Wimbledon but is liable to suffer off days, as seen when she was blown away by Venus Williams last year, and must put that behind her.

The older Williams sister has reached the final on six occassions in the last eight years, landing winning tennis bets on four of those occassions. Her heavy serve and powerful ground strokes are perfectly suited to Wimbledon. She is seeded seventh and is again available at attractive odds in the tennis betting.

Williams and Marion Bartoli became the lowest seeds to contest a Wimbledon final last year and choosing the finalists may be again more difficult than the tennis odds suggest.

Sixth seed Serena Williams may again be a force after missing much of 2006 through injury and is well-fancied in the tennis betting. There were plenty of losing tennis bets when she crashed out at the quarter final stage in four of the last five Grand Slams but she should improve on that record at SW19, where she has won on both the occasions she has reached the last eight.

Unlike with Federer in the men's Wimbledon betting, the top-ranked female is only third favourite, as newly-crowned French Open winner Ana Ivanovic sits between the Williams sisters in the tennis betting, and could have strong claims at decent odds.

Those who like a tennis bet on world number two Jelena Jankovic usually get a good run for their money. The consistent Serb has reached at least the final 16 in the last eight Grand Slams. Semi-final appearances at Melbourne and The French Open plus victory in the Rome Masters suggest she could be a good tennis bet again at Wimbledon.

A popular mixed-doubles winner with Jamie Murray last year, she is concentrating solely on the singles event this time around which is reflected in her odds.

Other outside tennis bets are former winners Amelie Mauresmo (if fit) and Lindsay Davenport, who will be popular with the Wimbledon crowds and could upset the odds on their day.
