The Open Odds

Darren Clarke's win at the 2011 Open was his first Major, and the first time he finished in the top 10 of a Major competition since 2000

It’s the pinnacle of any European golfer’s career and many American golfer’s too, and the Open is one of the finest spectacles in sport. The Open Championship, more commonly known as the Open ot the British Open, is the oldest Major in golf. The Open is only ever played on one of nine links courses, and because of that many people believe that it is the truest test of a golfer’s skill and ability. When scutinising the Open odds, it’s worth bearing in mind golfers who are capable of playing in horrendous conditions.

The Open golf courses

First played in 1860, the Open spent its first 10 years being hosted at Prestwick Golf Club but these days there are nine golf clubs in the rota to host the Open. Five of these courses are in Scotland and they include the Old Course at St Andrews, Carnoustie, Muirfield, Turnberry and Royal Troon. The other four courses are all in England and are Royal Birkdale, Royal St Georges, Royal Liverpool and Royal Lytham & St Annes. Wales has never hosted an Open and Northern Ireland have hosted just the one in 1951 at Royal Portrush.
