Scottish Premier League betting no foregone conclusion

In its 10-season history, Scottish Premier League betting has produced plenty of drama.

Celtic made it three titles in a row in 2007-08, but they did not have things all their own way in the SPL betting.

Scottish Premier League odds reflect Celtic success

Rangers had the chance to pip them to the championship if they beat Aberdeen at Pittodrie and Celtic failed to win at Dundee United; and there was plenty of Scottish Premier League betting on that combination of results from those of a blue persuasion. But in the end Rangers lost 2-0 while a strike from Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink saw Celtic home at Tannadice.

Gordon Strachan’s side opened with the shortest Scottish Premier League odds for the 2008-09 campaign as they bid for a seventh title in nine seasons.

Celtic and Rangers dominate Scottish football betting, as the only time in SPL history that the Old Firm has not been the top two was in 2005-06 when Hearts finished runners up to Celtic.

Plenty of SPL markets in Scottish football betting

It is not a given that the top scorer in the SPL will come from the title-winning club, but in 2007-08 Scott McDonald rewarded his followers in the Scottish Premier League betting when he bagged a league-best 25.

McDonald is a popular choice in Scottish football betting to be top scorer as he had found the net regularly at Motherwell before his move to Celtic Park in 2007.

Kris Boyd’s move from Kilmarnock to Rangers saw the Ibrox club’s Scottish Premier League odds shorten in 2006, and though he could not deliver them the championship, he finished top scorer for two consecutive seasons.

Gretna justified short Scottish Premier League odds

There was significant SPL betting on Gretna to finish bottom of the table in 2007-08 season, and they managed just five wins from 38 matches and ended the term 27 points adrift of 11th-placed Kilmarnock.

It was a major surprise that Kilmarnock failed to badly, as they had finished fifth the previous term and there would have been long Scottish Premier League odds on them becoming embroiled in relegation issues.
