Low-scoring games are a better-than-average chance with Portsmouth

With such a small squad at their disposal, and having to start the season with a ten point deduction, survival in League One would probably represent a solid season for Portsmouth and therefore it may pay to look outside of the obvious betting markets.

Portsmouth are 6/1 in the League One betting to be promoted this season and even bigger to win the title, at 25/1, whilst they are not amongst the more fancied teams to be relegated from League One.

However, with lots of football betting opportunities available on each fixture, it may be best to focus on Portsmouth odds on a match-by-match basis.

One noted trend that has followed Portsmouth in the past seven seasons regardless of whether they have played in the Premier League or Championship is the lack of goals that are typically in their fixtures.

Whether a fixture has over or under 2.5 goals can largely be concluded to be a 50/50 outcome, but Portsmouth have regularly been involved in games with few goals.

At least half of the games featuring Portsmouth in each of the past seven seasons have witnessed under 2.5 goals.

In one Premier League season, 27 of Portsmouth’s 38 games saw under 2.5 goals scored, while this also happened in 26 of their Championship fixtures last season.

Therefore, if football odds greater than 1/1 are available for any of Portsmouth’s league games this season, then this could lead to some betting success.
