Improving home form imperative for Nottingham Forest

After being beaten Championship play-off semi-finalists in two of the last three seasons, Nottingham Forest will be hopeful that their new owners will usher in an era of success that sees them make it over the finish line this season.

However, things looked bleak for Forest last season, with it looking as though they would be condemned to relegation to League One for much of the season.

In two seasons previous, Forest would have filled one of the top two spots if just the home games against teams finishing in the bottom half of the table were taken into consideration, with them losing just one of their 24 games against the teams in the bottom 12 at the City Ground over the two campaigns.

Last term though, Forest lost over half of their matches at home to lower half opposition, and they must rediscover the form they found against lowly opposition prior to the 2011/2012 season if they are to have any chance of promotion.

Their away form against the same teams must also be addressed, as across their 35 games on their travels, Forest have won just 13 times and lost exactly four times in each season.

The main catalyst for this big change in results is a leaky defence, with Forest conceding on 44 occasions in this time.

Therefore, if Sean O’Driscoll can tighten his defence in away games without losing any attacking fluidity, Nottingham Forest’s odds for promotion from the Championship may be on the large side at 7/2.
