The motor racing season runs from March to October and takes in 18 global races throughout the season with Bahrain, China, Malaysia and Turkey all recent additions to the circuit. The season begins with the Australian Grand Prix and ends in Brazil with many thrills, spills and changing odds along the way for those who enjoy a motor racing bet.
The season will expand to 19 races in 2009 after a Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi was added to the calendar.
The main motor racing betting focus throughout the season is on the drivers' and constructors' championships, but there is great interest on each individual Grand Prix with in-play betting a new and exciting motor racing betting introduction.
Qualifying vital for motor racing bets
A place at the front of the grid is vital for both drivers and those considering motor racing bets as the marginal difference between car performance makes it difficult to improve a position from way down the order.
Eleven winners in the 2007 season started from pole position, with four from second while two secured victory from third.
A Grand Prix is held over a weekend, with the two free practice sessions normally held on the Friday - the exception being Monaco - while there is another free practice on Saturday giving anyone considering a motor racing bet an idea of how the respective cars will cope with a particular track.
Ferrari has an enviable record at its 'home' track of Monza, winning on 17 occasions since 1951, nine more than closest rival McLaren.
Qualifying not only determines where drivers start on the grid but is also a major opportunity for fans to consider fastest lap-time motor racing bets.
Motor racing betting on the races
The race itself generates the most motor racing betting activity. Many winning motor racing bets have been staked over the years on teams and drivers from Great Britain, which has produced most Drivers' Championship winners (12).
Meanwhile, the success of McLaren and Williams throughout the 1980s and '90s, are the main reason why GB teams have dominated the Constructors' Championship with 32 successes.
However, over recent years those considering motor racing odds on offer about Ferrari have been counting their winnings as the Italian team has enjoyed six successes in the last eight championships.
Motor racing odds on the drivers
British hero Lewis Hamilton's motor racing odds reflect his second-placed championship finish in 2007.
Hamilton looked to be the winner of the coveted crown in his inaugural season with two races remaining, after four wins and eight other podium finishes, but was denied by Kimi Raikkonen who upset the motor racing odds to prevail by a single point.
Raikkonen's odds reflect he is a popular bet again in 2008 for each Grand Prix especially as the Ferrari team appear to have produced another excellent car, while the motor racing odds on his teammate, Felipe Massa, are also always worth considering.
