Europa League Betting

Europa League Betting

If it is variation you are after, then look no further than the Europa League odds.

While the Champions League (or its predecessor the European Cup) boasts 21 different winners since its beginnings in 1951, the Europa League (previously known as the UEFA Cup) beats that number of successful teams by five, despite not being established until 20 years later.

And with four first-time winners in the last six years (Sevilla, Zenit St Petersburg, Shakhtar Donetsk and Atletico Madrid) that trend shows no sign of stopping.

Europa League boasts more variety of winners

Last season Porto prevailed in a tight encounter over their Portuguese rivals Braga, as Andre Villas-Boas teed up a future Premier League job at Chelsea by claiming an impressive treble with the Portuguese champions.

Meanwhile, top scorer Radomel Falcao also used the victory as a springboard to potentially bigger things by sealing a move to Atletico Madrid.

It was Porto’s second Europa League/UEFA Cup win, putting them only one success behind Juventus, Inter and Liverpool who have all won this trophy three times, with the Reds the last of this trio to succeed back in 2001.

PSG, Lazio and Athletic Bilbao are contenders in the Europa League betting

Of the teams to feature in the Europa League betting this season, it is Paris Saint-Germain who are perhaps the most likely to triumph for the first time after a big-spending summer acquiring the likes of Argentine playmaker Javier Pastore. Elsewhere, Lazio, Athletic Bilbao and even Stoke will feel they are reasonable contenders in terms of securing Europa League glory.
