After a disappointing run in the tournament he finally broke through in 2011 when he reached the final and faced Englishman Adrian Lewis.

During his run to the final he defeated former World Champions Dennis Preistley and Raymond van Barneveld and the odds on him claiming a maiden world title made for tasty-looking bet.

However, it wasn’t to be for the man from Eyemouth and Lewis proved too good for him on the night.

Despite having a higher three dart average than Lewis, Anderson lost an extremely close battle 7-5 which meant it was the Englishman rather than the Scot who left Alexandra Palace with the £200,000 first prize.

Despite beating Taylor in the final of the World Darts trophy in 2007, Anderson – like all other PDC competitors – has a poor record against Phil Taylor.

Thankfully for the young Stoke man, he didn’t have to face ‘The Power’ because the World No.1 lost in the quarter final to Mark Webster.

Lewis then saw off Webster in their semi final clash, coming through 6-4 with an average of 98.48.
