He’s renowned for having one of the smoothest actions in the game and has shown time and time again that he can compete against the best and come out on top.

However, despite winning some of the biggest events in darts such as the World Darts trophy in 2007 and the 2011 Premier League, there is still one title that eludes him – the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship.

Gary Anderson odds for the World Darts Championship are always worth a look

Despite never winning the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship, Gary Anderson odds look set to be rather short for many years to come.

After a disappointing run in the tournament he finally broke through in 2011 when he reached the final and faced Englishman Adrian Lewis.

During his run to the final he defeated former World Champions Dennis Preistley and Raymond van Barneveld and the odds on him claiming a maiden world title made for tasty-looking bet.

However, it wasn’t to be for the man from Eyemouth and Lewis proved too good for him on the night.

Despite having a higher three dart average than Lewis, Anderson lost an extremely close battle 7-5 which meant it was the Englishman rather than the Scot who left Alexandra Palace with the £200,000 first prize.

Anderson continues to improve though and few would bet against him making it to the final stages of the tournament for many years to come.

Phil Taylor still has the upper hand though

Despite beating Taylor in the final of the World Darts trophy in 2007, Anderson – like all other PDC competitors – has a poor record against Phil Taylor.

However, Anderson did beat him in a UK Open qualifier in 2011 which shows, on his day, the Gary Anderson odds for him to beat Taylor may well be worth backing.

Adrian Lewis always had the potential to be one of the best darts players in the world and, in recent seasons, he’s come close to fulfilling that potential.

Despite still being in his twenties, Lewis has climbed to the upper reaches of the world rankings and has only been stopped from making it to the top of the tree by the dominance of Phil Taylor.

However, there is no-one better placed than Lewis to challenge Taylor for darts supremacy…

The 2011 Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship showed Lewis at his best

Heading into the 2011 Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship, the Adrian Lewis odds were relatively tempting, but it was extremely hard to look beyond 13-times World Champion Phil Taylor in the darts betting.

Thankfully for the young Stoke man, he didn’t have to face ‘The Power’ because the World No.1 lost in the quarter final to Mark Webster.

Lewis then saw off Webster in their semi final clash, coming through 6-4 with an average of 98.48.

That win set up a mouth-watering final with Gary Anderson, which Lewis went on to win 7-5 and claim his maiden Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship.

With Lewis continuing to show plenty of consistency it would take a brave person to back against him winning plenty more World Darts Championships.

The Adrian Lewis odds aren’t the only ones worth checking out

Although Adrian Lewis has already shown he has what it takes to win the biggest prizes in darts, he’s not the only player who has the potential to be at the top of the game.

Fellow twenty-something James Wade may not have won a World Championship but he is a brilliant player and is amongst the most successful players to ever play the game.

Meanwhile, of the older generation, Scotsman Gary Anderson continues to perform in the big tournaments and is well worth considering in the darts betting.

James Wade odds are always worth checking out as the young Englishman continues to show he is one of the best players in the world.

He us the youngest ever player to win a major PDC title in 2007 when he lifted the World Matchplay title at just 24 years of age.

Since then he has gone on to win the World Grand Prix twice, the Premier League and Championship League, as well as the UK Open in both 2008 and 2011.

However, despite consistently performing in all of the major tournaments, there is one title that has so far eluded him…

James Wade odds in the World Championship are sure to be short – despite never making the final

Wade has so far disappointed in the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship and hasn’t really come close to upsetting the odds and picking up the biggest prize in darts.

Wade’s best performance in the championship so far was a semi final appearance in the 2009 event when, after seeing off Paul Nicholson and Vincent van der Voort in the previous rounds, he was knocked out 6-4 against Dutchman Raymond van Barneveld.

Van Barneveld went on to lose the final against Phil Taylor and it’s unlikely that, even if he had defeated Van Barneveld, Wade would have had enough to beat ‘The Power’ and claim a maiden title.

However, Taylor is getting on in years and, with age on his side, the James Wade odds for him to go on and win a Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship title look extremely temping.

You can’t rule out Taylor though

Even though he is now the wrong side of 50 years-old, Phil Taylor is still easily the best darts player in the world and continues to be No.1 in the world rankings by a considerable distance.

Ruling Taylor out when looking at the darts odds could prove a costly mistake.

He’s won numerous world titles and is always in the mix during the latter stages of the biggest darts tournaments in the world.

However, there is one match he will always be remembered for…

The 2007 World Championship final showed Van Barneveld can handle the pressure

The 2007 Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship was one of the most eagerly anticipated darts matches in history – and it didn’t disappoint.

Raymond van Barneveld was new to the PDC having left the BDO federation the previous season and was facing Phil Taylor who had dominated the PDC since the first World Championship back in 1994.

Taylor showed his class early on and raced to a 3-0 lead. However, Van Barneveld fought back and levelled the game before taking a 6-5 lead.

Van Barneveld took the deciding leg thanks to a double top finish to end one of the most thrilling game of darts of all time and claim his first and, so far, only PDC World Darts Championship title.

With both players averaging over 100 in the final it showcased what darts is all about and showed the Raymond van Barneveld odds are well worth looking into when things start getting tense.

The new generation are a threat

Although Van Barneveld is still a force to be reckoned with, there are a host of younger players biting at his heels.

With the likes of Adrian Lewis and James Wade showing they are amongst the best players in the world, Raymond van Barneveld odds look set to get longer in the coming seasons.

Phil Taylor is quite simply the greatest player ever to pick up a dart.

During his incredible career he has won over £1million in prize money and won the World Darts Championship an unparalleled 13 times.

Despite now being in his fifties, the Stoke man shows no sign of slowing down and the Phil Taylor odds will always be worth checking out – especially at the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship…

Bet on Phil Taylor to win when he gets to the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship final

When Phil Taylor makes it to the final of the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship, he usually wins.

Since the inception of the competition back in 1994, ‘The Power’ has appeared in 16 finals and has won all but three of them.

His first defeat came in the inaugural tournament when he lost to fellow Englishman Dennis Preistley 6-1. That defeat was to prove a rare occurrence though and he went on to win the next eight titles.

His next defeat in the final came against Canadian John Part in 2003 when he lost 7-6, before he was defeated once again in 2007 by Raymond van Barneveld to the same score.

Even when he loses it’s a close game, so Taylor can never be ruled out when it comes to the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship.

It’s not just the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship that Taylor dominates

Phil Taylor odds are often so short because he doesn’t just perform in the World Championships – he performs in all the major tournaments.

During his career, Taylor has won all the major ranking tournaments – the UK Open, the World Matchplay, the European Championship, the World Grand Prix and the Players Championships.

Because he dominates the whole of darts and not just one tournament, the Phil Taylor odds are often a very tempting proposition – no matter how short.
