Camelot Odds

Frankel was the big star of the last Flat season and the indications are that Camelot may be the horse to follow in his footsteps in the next. Camelot hardly seemed to break sweat in securing victories in his two two-year-old starts, with the latter of these coming in the Racing Post Trophy. This is one of the most respected races for horses aged two and the winners are often tipped for big things in the following season.

As is typically the case following his Racing Post Trophy victory, Camelot odds have substantially shortened for the next Epsom Derby. High Chaparral, Motivator and Authorized are among the horses to have most recently completed this particular double.

However, there is a long time to pass between the Racing Post Trophy and Derby. There is ample time throughout the winter for a horse to pick up injuries and colds to slow down their development, while other horses just do not grow and improve at the rate which many expect. This was arguably the case with St Nicholas Abbey after his Racing Post Trophy victory in 2010, during which he looked arguably just as impressive as Camelot.
